Digital Ray-Path® lenses are compensated lenses that are calculated and optimized for each individual wearer. This is one of the biggest advantages that digital technology offers. Benefits of Compensated Lenses for the User
Oblique aberration is a defocus error that the patient perceives when looking outside the optical center of the lens. This aberration causes a reduction in visual acuity (VA) and, in turn, negatively affects the field of vision. For this reason, it is important to compensate for the effect of oblique aberration in progressive and single vision lenses, especially in medium-high prescriptions and also in curved frames.
How to calculate the power of a conventional lens
The power of a conventional lens is calculated assuming that light always follows a path perpendicular to the back face. When the patient looks through the center of the lens, the power is correct and the quality of vision is good. However, when the patient looks laterally, the light rays do not pass through the lens perpendicularly, but obliquely, so the power calculation is not correct in these circumstances.
How to calculate the power of a compensated lens
Digital Ray-Path® technology simulates the real position of the lens with respect to the eye, considering all the real customization parameters (or standards if they are not available). Next, the rotation of the eye is simulated and all possible directions of gaze are studied for far, intermediate and near. Finally, the power of the lens is modified point by point on the posterior face to compensate for the oblique aberrations studied in all directions of gaze.
